Story Petals
Journaling and Japanese Crafts in and around Tokyo
Story Petals runs Journal & Craft Club, a mindful, creative space where people connect by sharing their own stories. Through journaling and crafts, people of different languages and cultures meet and discover new things together.
Sessions run in a mix of English and Japanese

About the club
Yuuka Ishiyama started Journal & Craft Club out of her love of journaling, art, and making things, inspired by the discoveries and connections that came from sharing them with others. Her time abroad left her feeling that the stories people carry are what connect them around the world, whatever their culture or upbringing. She runs the club as a place where anyone, regardless of nationality or language, can express themselves in their own way and share that moment with others.
The club has held sessions on many themes, from journaling and art to seasonal crafts. Its sessions on Japanese culture have included painting daruma dolls and making uchiwa fans and wind chimes.
“Even people meeting for the first time start talking naturally when they work with their hands side by side. Now I want to share this time with people traveling in Japan too, starting with crafts that let you experience Japan’s seasons and culture. You don’t just see or learn about it. You make something with your own hands, add your own story to it, and take home a memory of that time in a form that is yours alone.”
— Yuuka Ishiyama, Journal & Craft Club
