Kai Cutlery Store Kyoto
Knife Sharpening Workshop

貝印刃物店 京都 包丁研ぎ講座

Kai’s own knife specialists teach you the five techniques that bring a knife back to life. Kai Cutlery Store Kyoto is the first street-level shop of Kai, a long-established blade maker founded in Seki City, Gifu, in 1908. The class itself happens in the second-floor tatami room of a traditional Japanese house.

Workshop conducted in Japanese, with materials in English

About the workshop

The shop’s concept is “Beyond sharpness — when your tools change, your daily life changes with them.” They run it as a “solution boutique,” proposing a new value for blades. Not only to sell blades, but to make daily life itself richer through the tools — that is the thought behind it.

Kai was founded in 1908 in Seki City, Gifu, a town known for its blades. It makes over ten thousand items, centered on blades close to daily life — grooming tools such as razors and nail clippers, beauty tools, kitchen and confectionery equipment including knives, and medical blades. Kai is a global blade maker that handles the whole chain in-house, from planning and development through production, sales, and logistics.
